High Resolution Cameras – Why they do no good.

Do you want a high resolution camera?
Beware of ads with high resolution cameras. Any knowledgeable microscopist will tell you that the highest attainable useful resolution in the best quality light microscopes is about 1.4 MP. Anything beyond that is wasteful empty resolution, adding nothing to the quality of the image. It’s comparable to scanning an old newspaper photo at an extremely high resolution, printing it, and expecting to get more details from the print. If getting something like a 10 MP camera just makes you feel good, then we can also provide it for you. But we strongly discourage it.
